Acts 5:12-42
- God performs miracles to help bring people to Jesus (v. 12-16). Acts 4:29-30
- The miracle of Pentecost led to 3,000 converts (Acts 2:41).
- The miracle of the lame man led to 2,000 converts (Acts 4:4).
- The miracle healing of Aeneas led to many converts. Acts 9:35
- The miracle resurrection of Tabitha led to many converts. Acts 9:42
- Point of clarity: Salvation does not come through signs and wonders but through Jesus Christ. Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 1:22-24
- Point of clarity: Signs and wonders are one of God's way of bearing witness to the gospel. Hebrews 2:3-4
- Point of clarity: Signs and wonders were used by God to authenticate His special messengers, the apostles. Corinthians 12:12; Acts 14:3
- God empowers you when people fight against your witness (v. 17-21).
- When they react to your witness with jealousy.
- When they react to your witness by treating you unjustly. 1 Peter 4:14, 16
- When you treat God’s power as His to control, not yours.
- Point of clarity: God does not promise to rescue you from every trouble. Luke 21:12
- Stephen is stoned to death (Acts 7:55-58).
- James, the apostle, is killed by Herod (Acts 12:1-2).
- God will empower you to help others find life (v. 20-21).
- God’s Good News is all about Jesus (v. 21-32). Acts 1:8
- Good News #1: God raised Jesus Christ from the dead (v. 30).
- Good News #2: God exalted Jesus to His right hand as Prince and Savior (v. 31).
- Point of clarity: Jesus sustains all of life. Hebrews 1:3a
- Point of clarity: Jesus possess all authority. Matthew 28:18
- Point of clarity: Jesus builds His church/family. Matthew 16:18
- Good News #3: Jesus is the source for forgiveness of sins (v. 31). Acts 10:43; Acts 11:18
- God’s empowered witnesses are radically obedient to Him (v. 29).
- God is unstoppable (v. 33-42). Isaiah 46:9–10
- Point of clarity: God’s love for us is unstoppable. Romans 8:38–39
- Point of clarity: God’s transforming work in us is unstoppable. 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
- God’s empowered witnesses rejoice in trials (v. 41).
- God’s empowered witnesses never stop telling others about Jesus (v. 42).
