Live as children of light

This week we heard some horrible, stomach turning news. Phillip Garridio kept Jaycee Dugard as his prisoner/slave for 18 years. The pain and suffering he caused to her and the two daughters he fathered by her is truly beyond comprehension.

In Ephesians 5:7-14, Paul talks about darkness and light. He says “have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness”; instead “live as children of light.” Clearly Phillip Garridio is an example of living in darkness in the extreme. But although we only infrequently hear of such levels of darkness, God sees it daily around the world. That is one reason God admonishes us to aggressively reject a life of darkness and aggressively pursue a life in the light.

I invite you to read Ephesians 5:7-14 in preparation for Sunday. And ask yourself,
  • Does my life reflect God’s light powerfully or dimly?
  • How so?
  • And How does my life promote goodness and righteousness and expose darkness?”
