Courageous Mothers

Luke 1:26-38, 46-55

• A courageous Mother exercises trust in God from the very beginning and in all
• circumstances (vv.34-38). Proverbs 3:5-6
• A courageous mother knows God through his Word – she is a student of the Word (vv.46-55). 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 5:12-14
• A courageous mother stays faithful to God’s call as a mother. John 19:25-27; Acts 1:14

“Charm is deceitful, and beauty does not last;
but a woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised”
(Proverbs 31:30, NLT).

When Storms Hit

Matthew 8:23-27

• Principle #1 – Expect some storms while following Jesus John 16:33; 1 Peter 4:12
• Principle #2 - Be careful to follow Jesus on His terms, not yours. Genesis 28:20-21
• Some people follow Jesus for earthly gain. (Matthew 8:19-20)
• Some people follow Jesus only when it is convenient.  (Matthew 8:21)
• Principle #3 - Do not let your fear overcome your trust in Jesus (Matthew 8:24-25). 1 Peter 5:7
• Principle #4 - Remember Who is with you in the storm – Jesus (Matthew 8:27). Psalm 89:8-9; Isaiah 41:10
• John 11 – Jesus raises the dead.

The Loving Wrath of God

“…‘My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from Me.

Yet not as I will, but as You will’”

(Matthew 26:39, NIV).

“…Put your sword away!

Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given Me?”

(John 18:11, NIV).

•  The cup of God is a reference to His wrath and judgment. Psalm 75:8; Jeremiah 25:15; Revelation 14:10; John 3:36; Romans 1:18; Romans 2:5
• God judges each person because of their sin. Colossians 3:5-6
• Sin is a direct assault upon God’s authority and character.
• Sin destroys God’s creation and His relationship with every person.
• Jesus drank the cup of God’s wrath in your place. 2 Corinthians 5:21; Isaiah 53:5-6; 1 Peter 2:24-25; Romans 5:9;  Colossians 2:14-15; Romans 8:1-2
• The motive behind all this is the love of God. 1 John 4:9-10; Ephesians 2:3-5

A Mother’s Godly Impact

• Instill a Respect for Scripture. 2 Timothy 3:14-15; Deuteronomy 6:4-7
• Instill a passion for Authentic Faith. 2 Timothy 1:5
• Instill a desire to Minister for the Lord. Acts 16:1-3
• strong believer
• good reputation
• available  Philippians 2:20-22
