Your Own Worship Service


  • Worship in spirit, vv. 1, 2
    • Worship with a joyful spirit.  
      • Biblical “joy” is an internal happiness springing from ones relationship with God. Galatians 5:22; John 15:10-11; Psalm 40:3
    • Worship with a glad spirit.  
      • That word "gladness" carries with it the meaning of being "wide-eyed with a big grin."
      • It means action that is accompanied with laughter. Psalm 122:1
    • Worship with a singing spirit. Ephesians 5:19-20
  • Worship in truth, v. 3
    • Worship with the conviction that there is only one God – Jehovah. Isaiah 44:6; Hebrews 11:6
      • “Ultimately why I left is that Yahweh, the Christian God demands that you submit to his will. In Wiccan faith, it’s just the other way around. Your will is paramount. We believe in gods and serve gods, but the deities we choose to serve are based on our will”  (anonymous Wicca member, “Generation EX-Christians,” page 115).
    • Worship with the conviction that God made you – so you have value and purpose. Genesis 1:31; Psalm 139:14
    • Worship with the conviction that you have a personal relationship with God. Psalm 23
      • A shepherd’s job is to provide for the basic needs of the sheep
      • A shepherd’s job is also to lead and guide the sheep.
      • A shepherd’s job is to keep the sheep safe.
  • Worship with words, vv. 4, 5
    • Worship with words of Thanksgiving
      • “thanksgiving” means “to declare publicly, to acknowledge, to express appreciation, gratitude.”
      • It is an attitude of gratitude expressed in word and deed. Romans 8:16-17; 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
    • Worship with words of praise. Psalm 150
        • “praise” means “to boast,” “to acclaim”
        • It is an expression of delight.
      • Praise God for His Goodness.
        • The word means "good, pleasant, beautiful, delightful, glad, joyful, precious, correct and righteous”  It can also mean “expensive."
        • “God is good all the time. Sometimes it is obvious”
      • Praise God for His enduring Love. Lamentations 3:21-23
      • Praise God for His lasting faithfulness. Deuteronomy 32:4; 1 Corinthians 1:8-9; 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24
